Dr. Marla J. Fischl, DVM, located in Cold Spring Harbor, New York, is a highly accomplished veterinarian with over 40 years of professional veterinary practice treating horses, dogs, and cats. Dr. Fischl has extensive experience in equine medicine including horse racing, equine sports and performance medicine, pleasure horse, and equine regulatory medicine. Experience

Following veterinary school graduation, Dr. Fischl returned to Roosevelt Raceway and established a racetrack and farm practice providing equine veterinary therapeutic and wellness care, lameness diagnostics and emergency care. She also provided small animal veterinary care for the racetrack stable companions, dogs, and cats.

During her early years of private racetrack veterinary practice, Dr. Fischl also worked at North Shore Animal League, Port Washington, New York. She provided small animal examinations, vaccinations, behavioral and nutritional counseling and spay/neuter surgical procedures.

Dr. Fischl worked for the New York Racing Association (NYRA) as an Examining Veterinarian at Aqueduct Racetrack and Belmont Park. She provided pre-race examinations for health, soundness and fitness to race. She also delivered emergency care during race time. Eventually, Dr. Fischl became the New York State Supervising Racing Veterinarian at Yonkers Raceway, New York, where she was responsible for implementing the New York State Gaming Commission's Drugs and Medications Testing Program and examining horses in the paddock and on the racetrack to determine health, soundness, and fitness to race.

Education

Dr. Fischl received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in Gainesville, Florida. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biologic Sciences from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
