How to Make a Special Cake for Your Cat's Birthday
Cats are like our family, and we want to celebrate all of their special milestones just like we do with our other loved ones. Celebrating your cat's birthday can be a special treat not just for them, but a fun activity for you and your family when you just want an excuse to celebrate. You can go all out with a cat birthday party, complete with decorations, birthday hats, games, and music. But no birthday is complete without a cake.
Of course, you want to avoid feeding your cat a real birthday cake—they're high in sugar, calories, and other ingredients that could be harmful to your cat's health. This cake is full of cat-friendly ingredients that you'll feel good about feeding them, and they'll love it.
The Only Way To Celebrate Your Cat’s Birthday Is With This Special Cake
What You'll Need
Equipment / Tools
- 1 1/4 Measuring cup
- 1 Plate
- 1 Piping bag
- 1 Knife
- 1 Birthday candle (optional)
Materials
- 1 cup Canned albacore tuna
- 1 cup Cooked, unseasoned chicken
- 1 cup Pureed sweet potato
- 1 cup Mashed potatoes
- 1 Catnip
Instructions
-
Mix the Ingredients
Add the drained albacore tuna, cooked chicken, and pureed sweet potato into a bowl and mix until combined. Try not to overmix—you don't want the ingredients to blend together, but you want all the ingredients to be evenly distributed throughout the cake.
-
Measure Out the Cake
Take your ¼ cup measuring cup and pack it lightly with with the tuna, chicken, and sweet potato mixture. Avoid packing it too tightly, but you want it to stay together when you come to tip it out in the next step.
-
Tip the Cake Onto a Plate
Take the measuring cup, now full of the cake ingredients, and carefully tip it onto a plate. The easiest way to do this is to hold the measuring cup upright, and hold the plate face-down on top of the measuring cup. Carefully flip them over so the plate is now face-up, and you can lift the measuring cup off the plate. Don't worry if it doesn't come out perfectly—just shape the cake as needed.
-
Fill the Piping Bag
Now it's time to "frost" the cake! If you don't have a piping bag, a plastic bag with the tip cut off works well. Take your piping bag or plastic bag and fill it with the mashed potatoes. Make sure the mashed potatoes are plain and unseasoned.
-
Frost the Cake
Squeeze the bag gently so that a steady stream of mashed potatoes comes out, as if you're frosting a cake. Cover the top of the cake with the piped mashed potatoes. Again, it doesn't have to be perfect; just smooth the top of the potatoes with a knife, or get creative and make a pattern or design in the mashed potatoes.
-
Sprinkle and Serve
Sprinkle the cake with a dusting of catnip. Then you're ready to serve! Consider adding a tiny cake topper or a birthday candle or two to the top of the cake so it looks really festive. Don't forget to get some pictures of your cat with their birthday cake. Just make sure to remove any inedible items that they might choke on before they dig in.
